11 awards for Little Creek Cheese
Finishing the year with a bang
After a very trying year, Little Creek Cheese is still number one. With all expos and a lot of competitions cancelled this year because of Covid-19, there has not be a lot to celebrate for the small artisan cheese factory, located in Wyong, on the Central Coast of NSW.
When the entries opened for the N.S.W. Dairy Competition, which is run by the Dairy Industry Association of Australia, they thought they would enter as they hold the champion non- bovine product award for 2018 and 2019.
A total of 10 of their finest cheeses were entered into the competition. To their amazement every cheese entered won either a Gold or Silver medal, but the greatest joy came from receiving the Champion non bovine product for the third year in a row.
The award went to their Aussie Bush Goat Fetta, which is Goat Fetta marinated with lemon myrtle and mountain pepper. The previous years it had been won with their Garlic and Dill Goat Fetta which this year picked up a gold!
Little Creek’s famous well-known Haloumi (that they call BBQ Cheese) picked up Gold and was the highest scoring Haloumi in the competition.
“Walking away with 11 awards out of 10 cheeses has given us something to smile about” said Russell Parsons (Owner/ Cheesemaker). Sue Parsons also stated “We haven’t dropped our standards and strive to showcase what a small family run business can achieve even in hard and trying times.
Their son Alex also had a hand in some of the winning products. With only a couple of causal staff, the cheese factory is an amazing example of a small Australian business standing their ground amongst the large foreign owned companies.
