Broken Bay Pearl Farm

Broken Bay Pearl Farm Hawkesbury & Woy Woy are open for business!

At Broken Bay Pearl Farm, the work behind the scenes to continue to create some of the world’s finest pearls does not stop for a pandemic as the hard-working pearling team have been busy caring and nurturing their precious pearl oysters. “Over recent months, the tourism side of our business has been interrupted due to the lockdown rules” Broken Bay Pearl Farm Owner and 3rd generation pearl farmer James Brown said, “but our doors have now re-opened. We have extended all pearl farm experiences to also be available as a private option, to ensure we meet COVID-19 safety regulations to maximise the overall experience for guests, as well as introducing an exciting new tour.”

A new 1-hour Discovery tour was introduced from June. It features a glimpse into life on a pearl farm and the basics of how we culture some of the world’s finest pearls. It includes a short cruise on the mighty Hawkesbury River and culminates in the harvesting of a pearl from the shell.

For those who have more time, the 2-hour Broken Bay Pearl Farm tour (also available for private tours) takes a deeper look at the story of the Australian pearl, from its ancient Indigenous beginnings through to modern pearl farming. This immersive experience enables guests time in the restricted-access Pearl Room to learn more about the pearl’s journey from farm to market and the intricacies of pearl grading.

The Hawkesbury River is breathtaking from the air. In July, Sydney Seaplanes re-commence flights from Rose Bay near Sydney’s CBD,  and their offerings include the Broken Bay Pearl Farm ½ Day Experience. Guests are treated to a 2-hour pearl farm tour and a decadent picnic hamper to enjoy on the banks of the river. Orbiting the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge on return – what a better way to spend a half day than discovering one of Sydney’s hidden gems?

For anyone driving north or south on the M1, the Lower Hawkesbury precinct is a 2-min detour off the Mooney Mooney exits. A gateway to the Central Coast heading north, or Sydney to the South, it is famed for its delicious rock oysters, and now, its remarkable pearls. Broken Bay Pearl Farm and Pearls of Australia welcome visitors to simply drop into the Shellar Door and say g’day. Sample a local Sydney Rock Oyster from one of the nearby oyster farms, take in the magnificent view of Spectacle Island, see an array of beautiful locally grown pearls, or jump on one of the pearl farm tours. Whatever you choose, an experience awaits the whole family.
