Featured Artist Lorraine Best

Lorraine was inspired to paint at an early age because of her father’s interest in art. Over the years, during formal education days and during the years of motherhood, she attended art classes in Sydney and Melbourne.
Lorraine’s first art award was gained in 1983 at the Geelong Art Show. She has won many awards since, including the Hornsby Art Prize on two occasions. These paintings now form part of the Hornsby Shire Council art collection. Lorraine has also exhibited at the Gosford Regional Gallery, the Palm House Gallery in the Sydney Royal Botanical Gardens and many galleries throughout Sydney and NSW. Lorraine has paintings in private collections, both in Australia and overseas.

She loves to work with other artists. Her membership with the Central Coast Art Society has enabled Lorraine to evolve and grow as an artist and as a person.
Lorraine is continuing to develop her artistic styles and is now exploring the potentials of Yupo paper. Yupo is the recyclable, waterproof, tree-free synthetic paper with attributes and properties that make it the perfect solution for a variety of painting styles.

The raffle prize, Waratah, donated by Lorraine, is a watercolour painted on Yupo paper. The painting was inspired by the waratahs growing in the bush near Lorraine’s home. You can find Lorraine Best Artist on Facebook or at lorrainebest.wordpress.com.

The exhibition venue is within the grounds of Gosford Regional Art Gallery and the beautiful Edogowa Japanese Gardens. Open daily 9.30am – 4pm.
