Two big Hunter Valley Art Fairs for 2021!

Hunter Valley Art Fair – Across TWO Big Long Weekends in 2021

Off the back of a wildly successful inaugural ‘Hunter Valley Art Fair’ event in October 2020, the exciting news has been announced that we can look forward to, not one, but TWO massive art events in 2021, across the June and October long weekends in the Hunter Valley vineyards.

The Hunter Valley Art Fair was created and is run by two emerging local artists from the little town of Branxton, on the doorstep of the gorgeous Hunter Valley Vineyards. Designed to give artists and makers from across the Hunter Region and beyond, a unique forum to showcase and sell their work, direct to the public, commission free. Unlike the usual markets we are used to enjoying around Newcastle and the valley, this event is held mainly indoors. This year will see the event double their indoor space by adding a large, enclosed marquee with timber floor, which will bring visitors out from the exhibition spaces in the main hall, directly into another large undercover space with more artist and maker stalls to enjoy, all out of the elements. The unique nature of this fair attracts many talented fine artists, many of whom would not attend outdoor markets and would generally only be seen hanging in galleries or selling online. The Hunter Valley Art Fair brings all these artists and makers together in one, easily accessible space in the heart of the Hunter Valley.

After recognising the popularity of ‘Art Fairs’ abroad and in a few of Australia’s larger cities, Kim Lundy and Suellyn Connolly teamed up to offer artists a unique opportunity and outlet for showcasing and selling their work to the general public and art collectors alike. Rarely do the public have an opportunity to meet and chat with artists, especially in such a relaxed setting. The event also encourages artists and makers to paint and create at their stall where possible, these live demonstrations provide a unique glimpse into their ‘behind the scenes’ processes which would usually be sequestered to exclusive studio visits.
As Suellyn sees it, “The arts scene in Newcastle and the Hunter is booming! I feel like there has never been a better time for this type of event, providing access for the public directly to fine arts, with the ability to meet these talented artists and makers in person and take home a truly special piece. In the current trying times, when people cannot travel very far, art provides the perfect escape!”
As the 2020 event did so last year, the collection of fine arts and handmade wares for 2021 is sure to allure the throngs of long weekend vineyard tourists and locals alike off McDonald’s road and into the centrally located Pokolbin Hall, to have a closer look and experience this one-of-a-kind event for our region, the Hunter Valley Art Fair.

The main priority when running any kind of event during the current pandemic, is the health and safety of the visitors and exhibitors. The artist duo behind the art fair will ensure the fair is designed to meet with whatever the current NSW government COVID restrictions, health standards and protocols are at the time of the event. The implementation of additional staffing and other practical measures to ensure the safety of everyone attending has been a huge focus of the organisers.

It’s time to come and get your art fill at the Hunter Valley Art Fair, this June and October long weekends!
