Step into the outdoors this late Winter & Spring. As the weather warms, it’s the perfect time to reconnect with nature and history. From August to September, we’re heading out on some truly special adventures — and we’d love for you to join us.

🌿 Mill Creek Wonders – Walk from the valley floor to an outstanding ridge-top of engravings

🌸 ‘Up in the Clouds’ of McPherson State Forest – historical insights wandering through forest landscapes blooming with gymea lily and waratah.

🪨 Walk Through Time. Explore 200 million years of Earth’s history on foot with a geologist, from the age of Gondwana to today’s sandstone country.

🍄 Celebrate Australian Fungi – Join us at The Hawkesbury Duck for a watercolour painting workshop starting with a mini fungi forage with a local enthusiast.

Each experience reflects our passion for sharing the hidden layers of place. That’s why we’re especially proud to share some exciting news…Heritage Ventures has been chosen as a finalist in the 2025 Central Coast Visitor Economy Awards for outstanding outdoor experiences! It’s a beautiful acknowledgement of Heritage Venture’s commitment to sharing stories, histories and experiences of our landscapes and waterways.

Mill Creek Wonders – A Walking Adventure

Sunday 3rd August
A journey of wonder. Hear about the Mill Creek tidal mill and the surrounding histories of settlement and resistance during the 1800s. On the way passing through an abundance of native flora including fern gullies, banksia, and angophoras, spotting birds and the tracks of mammals. High on the ridge at the headwaters of Mill and Gunderman creeks an extensive plateau showing evidence of deep history. Hear about McCarthy’s explorations around Flat Rocks Ridge and other galleries between Gunderman and Mangrove Creek with Paddy Pallin in the 1940s.
9.00am-4.00pm, $85 plus booking fee

 

Waratah Wonderland

Saturday 13th September
Waratahs are blooming and lyre birds are calling!. Join us for a special botanical, nature and history experience.
Along bush tracks of waratahs and gymea lilies hear about histories of Kulnura ‘up in the clouds’ and the evidence of indigenous occupation around the forest. An immersion amongst the yellows, blues, pinks and whites of our spring flowers.
9.30am-12.30pm. $65 + booking fee

 

Fabulous Fungi in Watercolours

Saturday 20th September
It’s been the season for fungi — we’re celebrating the mushroom kingdom — from toadstools to stinkhorns to dead man’s fingers and zombie ant fungus.
Join us at the Hawkesbury Duck for a fun fungi watercolour painting workshop starting with a fungi exploration of the many forms, secret underground life and improbable history of the humble mushroom. Learn techniques of tone, colour and shading to create finished fungus watercolours with fabulous artist and designer Leonie Loewe. ​
All materials, morning tea, lunch and take home gift included.
8.30am-3.30pm, $145 plus booking fee

 

Deep Time Sandstone Country: On Foot with a Geologist

Saturday 27 September
Join us for a full day excursion focusing on the rocks and landscape of Hawkesbury Sandstone Country – from Gondwana 200 million yrs ago to present day sandstone country. Starting at Devines Hill and walking to Finchs Line with panoramic views over Hawkesbury to the Blue Mountains.
9.00am-4.30pm, $85 plus booking fee
