NAIDOC Week 2026

Interior Mandalong Gallery

Mandalong Aboriginal Art Gallery

For those who do not know what Naidoc stands for – it is National Aborigines and Islander Day Observance Committee. This is a time for all Australians to embrace the culture, and recognize the contribution Indigenous people have made to this wonderful country of ours.

The artworks show the ongoing history of a way of life continued today – from artists such as Clifford Possum/ George Ward Tjungurrayi/ Yukultji Napangati/ Debra Nangala McDonald to many of our younger artists such as the Numina sisters.

This event is a great time to learn a little about a different culture. This is a part of everyone’s heritage, and we should embrace it with pride, and respect.
It is a time to reflect not only on the artworks, but the skills and knowledge that these people have to offer – due to them living a nomadic and isolated lifestyle out in the desert.
In July this year Naidoc will celebrate “50 Years of Deadly”. It is a time we should remember history, and move forward to celebrate the achievements, and culture of both the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Their arts and craft skills tell stories of the past, present and makes way for the future. Their Bush Medicines are now being used by many people.

Take this opportunity to visit an Aboriginal Art Gallery near you, and enjoy the pleasant visual sensations of the arts and crafts you will see there.
Some works you will find highly stimulating, and others calming and relaxing.

Their paintings come from Dreamtime Stories passed down to them through their families – or tribal members. Some of these stories have songs that go with them, and these songs are sung as the artworks are painted.

To see these inspiring works visit Mandalong Gallery at 29 Little Valley Road Mandalong.
