The Shirley Shuttle – Providing high quality transport to ‘transport-challenged’ Central Coast outpatient residents

The Shirley Shuttle commenced on 4 March, 2008 with Barb Galvin’s donation of $50,000 to purchase the first vehicle to transport cancer outpatients to and from oncology treatment centres and specialist appointments within the Central Coast Region in memory of her late Mother ‘Shirley’ who died of cancer in 2006. In late 2024 Shirley Shuttle registered as a Charity and is overseen by a Management Committee, and the new Central Coast Community Transport administers the service by accepting bookings and organising appointments.

Cost of the Service
The current fee for a ‘round trip’ is $20 per client (dedicated to running costs). But, there is no means test, and no client will be unable to access vital treatment due to financial challenges.
The Shirley Shuttle service can only continue to operate with :

  • The continued generosity of Central Coast Community Groups and individuals to meet 5 vehicle replacement costs around every 3 years (ie at about 100,000 kms) and expensive insurance and maintenance costs for each of those vehicles, and
  • The team of dedicated volunteer drivers.

If you consider being a part of ‘The Shirley Shuttle Family’ either as a volunteer admin member or volunteer driver, or by making a donation towards vehicle replacement or running costs please contact: John (Volunteer Co-ordinator) 0493013822 or volunteer@shirleyshuttleinc.org.au
Bookings for appointments : 4355 4588.
