Wyong Writes #1

A celebration of local stories and homegrown talent
Red Tree Theatre and Wyong Drama Group have combined in a weekend venture called Wyong Writes #1 to promote local playwrights
MAY 23/24/25 for four performances only.
This years inaugural event will feature two one act plays written by SAL BARTLEY, “Walk A Mile” and “One Crowded Hour”.
“Walk A Mile” will be directed by Ron Baker. The play’s only appearance was a finalist in Scene Theatre Sydney’s 2024 Stage to Stage festival while “One Crowded Hour” will be directed by Sancia West which was performed in 2023 at Port MacQuarie One Act Festival where it won the award for Best Ensemble. Sal has written many one act award winning plays for other festivals such as Norfolk Island One Act Theatre Festival where her two plays received several major awards including one for Best Original Script, also Short And Sweet and Woy Woy Flash Festivals. Sal has also written a two act play called “Illuminati” performed in 2024 which received excellent reviews.
Synopsis of both plays are as follows
ONE CROWDED HOUR – Director Sancia West.
The one act festival is fast approaching but Martyn’s cast of diva’s and wannabes just can’t seem to bring his seventy minute plus play in under the required hour. What tricks does he have up his sleeve? Will he bring home the trophy or fall miserably? When all is said and done, the show must go on.
WALK A MILE – Director Ron Baker.
Alex and Fiona are hosting dinner with friends Ray and Fiona. Sophia is getting hot flushes and is really not fond of the younger Fiona. Alex can’t seem to put a step right. When the guests arrive the arguments begin and it looks as though the women will never find common ground.
