History Afloat: Kayak Mooney Mooney to Marramarra Creek

Saturday 5th – Sunday 6th September
Guided two day paddle experience from Mooney Mooney to Marramarra Creek stopping at heritage sites and landmarks. Discover the natural beauty of our waterways, enjoy historical revelations and spend time on sandstone country.

Our journey begins at Mooney Mooney, paddling into the tidal reaches of the Hawkesbury River (Dyarubbin). We pass the wreck of HMAS Parramatta and Milson Island, once a boys’ reformatory. Stopping at Bar Island, we visit a significant Aboriginal and European heritage site before paddling into the calm waters of Marramarra Creek. The waterway narrows into sheltered bushland alive with birdlife, leading to our campground among old orchard remains. Sunday we explore the upper reaches and return visiting other historic locations.

Hear about the people who lived in this isolated place in the 1800s, oyster farming, illegal stills, lime burners and river rescues. Kayaks, safety gear, all meals and camping equipment provided.

Join us on this beautiful fully catered overnight camp and historical tour with professional outdoor guides and historian. Kayak orientation provided.
Duration: Heading out on Saturday 5th September 8.30am, return by Sunday 6th September 3.30pm.
Ticket Price: $560
