The Central Coast’s most colourful day out returns this October Long Weekend as Coastie Carnie Fair Day, the vibrant heart of Coastal Twist Festival, transforms Umina Beach into a spectacular celebration of community, creativity, arts, culture and Pride. Set against the stunning backdrop of Umina Beach, the free event attracts around 9,000 visitors each year and has become one of the Central Coast’s most loved community gatherings.
Part community festival, part carnival and part celebration of diversity, Coastie Carnie Fair Day is packed with live entertainment, markets, food vendors, community stalls, family activities and enough glitter to be seen from space.
“This is the beating heart of Coastal Twist,” said Festival Creative Director Glitta Supernova. “It’s a beautiful and joyful event that brings communities together, breaks down barriers and creates opportunities for connection, learning and celebration. Year after year people return because the event reflects the Central Coast itself, not only across sexuality and gender, but across cultures, ages, abilities, bodies and backgrounds. It is a true reflection of who we are as a region.”
Visitors are encouraged to make a day of it. Bring a picnic rug, chairs & sun protection, friends, family and even the dog, settle in under the spring sunshine and enjoy a packed program of entertainment. With international street food, local market stalls, community organisations, a licensed bar and the beach just metres away, there’s something for everyone.
The main stage will feature festival headliners including RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under winner Lazy Susan, Mx First Nations Australia Kitty Obsidian, Aboriginal contemporary dancer Gusta Mara, trans rock performer Samara Marzola, circus cabaret performer Empress Stah, drag violin sensation King Fine China and cabaret favourite Frock Hudson. The festival will also shine a spotlight on some of the Central Coast’s finest creative talent, including internationally touring band Stellar Addiction, theatrical vocalist Axel StarViking, powerhouse singer Bek Jensen, community favourites Joy Choir, and a showcase of local drag artists.
The day begins with a Welcome to Country by Girri Girra, celebrating the rich Aboriginal heritage of the region. Families can then explore the dedicated Rainbow Family Area featuring circus play with Roundabout Circus, Aboriginal Storytime with Girri Girra, Wonder Mama Drag Storytime, Aboriginal dance workshops with Neville Boney, and a family disco hosted by Frock Hudson.
A returning crowd favourite is the Puparazzi Pooch Parade, where stylish pups and proud owners compete in a celebration of costumes, tricks, wagging tails and community spirit. Registrations are available online or on the day, with prizes up for grabs including first prize: a two-night stay at Gosford’s voco Hotel. “Let’s be honest, everyone thinks their dog is a superstar,” said Supernova. “The Puparazzi Pooch Parade is one of the most joyful parts of Fair Day. It’s guaranteed to bring plenty of laughs, outrageous fashion and unforgettable moments.”
Now in its sixth year, Coastie Carnie Fair Day remains the most accessible and widely attended event of Coastal Twist Festival, creating a welcoming space where creativity, diversity and community take centre stage.
With the beach on one side, live entertainment on the other and thousands of people coming together to celebrate connection and inclusion, organisers are promising a day filled with colour, fun and unforgettable moments. Coastie Carnie Fair Day takes place on Sunday 4 October, 10am to 5pm, at the Peninsula Recreation Precinct, Umina Beach.
